I just finished reading Strategic Public Relations: 10 Principles to Harness the Power of PR by Jennifer Gehrt and Colleen Moffitt. After everything I just learned, I am ready to really sink my teeth into some of these projects I am beginning. This is a great resource for creating an effective strategic plan in order to generate great results through public relations. It takes you through every step of planning your strategy, how to develop great relationships with the media, how to plan for negative results, how to measure your results, and even how to keep the momentum going after completing your initial strategy.
I really loved the examples that the authors illustrated in this book. The vignettes came from well known organizations and public relations agencies. The authors also developed a hypothetical plan that they outlined for you and put the entire planned strategy in the appendix. These two aspects made the concepts much clearer and allowed me to see how I could utilize these strategies for my clients.
Finally, the book contained interviewed with experts on every topic they touched on from second life and blogging to crisis communication and measuring the results of your public relations campaign. These interviews allowed me to gain a deeper insight into more specific topics. It also demonstrated to me how influential the various topics can be on public relations campaigns.
This is a great book for someone like me who is just getting into the public relations industry. Learning how to strategically plan every aspect of my campaign is going to be really helpful for the NewBridges plan that I have been working on the last couple of days. This book is also organized incredibly well and is a great reference for and public relations specialist to have.
